I found out we were going to have a friend and his gf over last weekend and while I had a Christmas gift for him, I forgot to mail it! With him coming to visit, I figured I'd save myself the shipping cost, but I had nothing for his gf, so I made this really quick. She's a Doctor Who fan like me, so I figured it would be ok. :)

Here's a fine photo of the baby in question wearing the sweater I made for her. The photograph is posted here by kind permission of the baby's awesome moms.

Last night I finished another pair of the handwarmers, my good ol' reliable pattern that I've made so many of--this time in a denim blue acrylic, and for my GF. Part of her Christmas present.

And now I'm (gasp of shock and horror) out of things to crochet.

So I'll just have to make some things for myself. I don't need anything... but there are some patterns I'd like to try, and if they work I could just keep the FOs and use them myself just because I can. I'm thinking of a simple hat, a cable hat, and maybe some of those handwarmers. I can use the leftover yarn from making those baby things earlier in the month.

What do you make for yourself?

The purple handwarmers for a friend in Philly, and the baby items for another friend (okay, really for said friend's baby), have all arrived at their destinations and been much praised. This is always a nice feeling. :)

On the hooks at the moment:

1. handwarmers for my girlfriend. I am being adventurous and trying a new pattern for these. I have a good ol' reliable recipe pattern that I've made more times than I can count, but I felt like branching out. Will post pics if they are successful.

2. the baby blankie. I haven't yet made up my mind what to do with this. I will, however, need something to work on once I've finished the handwarmers, and will also need something to work on at Christmas with my family. Hmm, logic would seem to dictate that I go back to the baby blankie...

But I also need to sort out the stash, which has gotten a bit disorganized since I started this flurry of crocheting a couple of months ago. I might, having done that, discover something else I want to work on.

First, the final item in the new-baby collection:

And then two views of the handwarmers I made for a friend:

Trying again--honestly don't know if this will work. Just trying one for the moment.

And you thought this would never happen... First pic is a slightly glary pic of a baby hat. Too much light? Second is hat #2, then last is one of the pairs of booties--one with top folded down, one with top folded up, so you can see the details.

I've made two pairs of baby booties now and started on a third, and I think I've got the basic technique down. One pattern seems much like another: details differ, but you start with a short chain, work down one side of it and back up the other with increases at both ends to form toe and heel. Then after a few rounds around this piece, there's a round working in back loop only to get the piece to folding upwards. Then more rounds and eventually some decreases to form the part over the instep. I'm pleased to have figured this out!

I have started the "Jonquil Vest" that I posted the link to in my previous post, only I'm doing it in a sort of dark berry color instead of jonquil yellow. I like the color better, plus dark colors = harder to notice spills on. This is important when it comes to baby clothes. (All these things are being made in machine-washable and -dryable yarns.) I've done a couple rows of the vest and it looks like it's going to be pretty easy, and again, I'm pleased that I could figure out how the pattern is going and what it's doing.

I might take the vest with me to Thanksgiving. Hmm, it would be handy if I could crochet in the car... never tried that. (Fear not. I won't be trying it while driving. I won't be driving. I barely remember how.) But it's a three or four hour trip, so if I don't get motion sickness from trying to focus, I could get a lot of work done...

I was given a digital camera some months ago by a friend of mine who had just upgraded. I have now figured out how to take pictures, yay me! However, haven't yet figured out how to transfer the pics to my computer. But am working on it.

Because I now have four, count 'em four, FOs to show you. Two pairs of baby booties and two baby hats. And my friend who was pregnant has now had her baby, more yay! So I want to send the things to her. But I'll take pictures first, and show y'all the pictures when I figure out the transfer process.

I do want to make a third pair of booties. And I may even be rash and imprudent and try making this sweater/vest thingy--with thanks to basketcaselady for encouraging me to try sweaters.

What are *you* making?
