cotton yarn recommendations?

Hi y'all--

Looking for a 100% cotton yarn that is perhaps less stiff than Sugar'n'Cream (which always makes my hands hurt after a while). Planning to make baby item(s) from it. Machine wash/dry would be ideal, but machine wash/air-dry would be okay too.

Any thoughts?

I like bernet's cotton. I thought they had a baby cotton line but I might be confusing it with something else. I know I've bought baby cotton yarn before.

Hobby Lobby's 'I Love This Cotton' is my go to for any project that doesn't involve texture(cables). It's mercerized and very easy to work with. For baby stuff, I use cotton/acrylic just for washability and HL has a brand called 'Hushabye' that is for babies(I also use it for any item with cables because of the matte finish).

I use Cascade Ultra Pima for baby things, but it is pricy.

Second this. It's pricey but it stays soft and comfortable with many washings.

I can't recommend a specific brand, but I second kate_mct's recommendation for a mercerised cotton. The result of mercerisation is a soft silky cotton rather than something stiff. I certainly wouldn't use Sugar'n'Cream for baby-wear; it's better for things that need to be water-absorbent and sturdy, like wash-cloths.

I like Paton's Grace. It is a mercerized cotton in a dk weight. It is usuallty carried at the big box stores.
