Finished Object!: Baby Blanket

My cousin Aimee is having a baby next month and this is the blanket I made for her. It was supposed to go to her older sister(who had a baby last month), but I ran out of time and yarn.

This was ORIGINALLY supposed to be This. But after several attempts, rearranging, and cursing the designer, I gave up and used the square arrangement and colors in a granny square motif, and edged the squares in white to give it a nicer flow.

This took me at least two months to do, never thought 100 little granny squares would take so much time to do, never mind having to join them all together.

Update: Baby shower was today and Aimee(Mom-to-be) LOVED it! Mom said that she couldn't quit talking about it.

Thank you! I try to keep my baby blankets gender neutral and those colors work best with any color scheme.

Thank you! My mother's already commisioning me to make a similar but bigger one for her.

I didn't sew these together, the thought made me want to scream, these were crocheted together as I went after all the colorful areas were finished.

Nice work, and really pretty colors! I love the way that deep clear blue just pops next to the white.

Thank you! I wasn't sure about the white until I saw how it made the colors all pop, especially that dark blue.

It definitely does good things for all the colors. I like the way it interacts with the mauve and the paler blue also.

I prefer natural fibers for babies. Superwashed wools or wool blends and cottons are all machine washable. I typically don't use yarns that must be hand washed for babies as moms don't have time for that. But natural fibers are breathable and the extra pennies they cost are well worth the experience of not having to knit with acrylics.

The only time I use acrylic is if it's blended with cotton. Cotton makes a very good all weather blanket. I've made blankets that kept the baby warm even in very cold weather(granted, the baby wasn't out in the cold for very long).

It's very pretty. I love how the dark blue makes the colors pop and ties the whole color scheme together.
